History

“The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future.”- Theodore Roosevelt

Early Years foundation stage (EYFS)

Mini Historians! The early learning goals support your child to talk about past/present events in their own lives and the lives of their family members, know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, places, objects, materials and living things and talk about changes.

Key stage 1

In Years 1 and 2 children learn to ask and answer historical questions, develop an understanding of chronology, use historical terms relating to the passing of time and understand some of the ways in which we find out about the past. Children will be immersed into a range of topics which allow them to identify changes within living memory, significant people and events locally, nationally and globally.

Key stage 2

In Key stage 2 children to continue to develop a chronologically secure understanding of British, local and world history by building on previous knowledge. As well as this, they begin to identify trends, understand change and impact and ask historically valid questions about change and significance. By the time they are ready to move on, we aim for our students to inspire curiosity, build opinions and have these challenged and to be able to think critically. The topics that are covered are in the table below.
