Update 19th - 4th January
Warden Park Primary Academy is unable to open as planned
As many of you may have heard on the news, the NEU (National Education Union) and Unison have instructed members that in the current climate, and following the latest SAGE information the NEU believes that it is unsafe for them to return to face-to-face teaching at the start of term. The school staff have spent the weekend and today understandably worried and anxious about what the right thing to do is. The very large majority of staff informed me at 14:30 this afternoon that they will be following the guidance from their unions. This is not a decision which has been taken lightly by any of our staff and leaders and governors understand this decision.
The NEU is recommending that schools move to remote learning and that only the children of key workers and vulnerable pupils attend for a minimum of 2 weeks. We have therefore come to the very difficult decision that we are unable to open safely to all pupils, as we will not have enough teachers to keep the children safe. We will be providing remote learning from tomorrow. Teachers will inform you of learning via SeeSaw.
In order to prepare appropriately for the coming days and weeks, no children should attend school tomorrow, Tuesday 5th January.
From Wednesday 6th January we will be open for the children of key workers and vulnerable groups only. We will contact families tomorrow to confirm arrangements. If you are a key worker, please think very carefully about whether you really need a place - we need to keep the number of children in school as low as possible, in order to ensure the safety of staff and children. We will be asking families to only take up a space if this is essential and there is no alternative for childcare. For all other children remote learning will continue until further notice.
Please accept my apologies for this extremely short notice and for the inconvenience this may cause many of you. We are doing our best to navigate these very challenging times.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
